The Emergency Needs for the Homeless Program is a BronxWorks eviction prevention program. It is designed to help families with children under the age of 18 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and in need of emergency services.  The program provides help with rent arrears, eviction notices, and utility termination.

In order to qualify, families must fall within 200 percent of the poverty guidelines, be the leaseholder, and have US citizenship or legal permanent residency.

Families eligible for crisis intervention services may be faced with calamities but are not in court.  Families eligible for eviction prevention services are at risk of eviction and have accrued rent arrears.

Services that are available to qualified households include:


  • Entitlements assistance
  • Accessing emergency grants
  • Referrals to supportive services
  • Financial counseling
  • Mediation with landlords
  • Mediation with government agencies
  • Help navigating housing court
