Workforce Development

The Workforce Development Department at BronxWorks would like to invite you to join us in our ongoing battle against unemployment.  Whatever your professional position might be, you can help Bronx residents find a job by assisting them with their resumes, preparing them for interviews, and orienting them to professional expectations.  Many of our clients have limited educational backgrounds and seek positions in retail, healthcare, maintenance, security, and other industries.  If you think you can help with one or both of the following, we would like to hear from you: (1) Mock Interviews: Volunteers conduct one-on-one interviews, evaluate participants’ strengths and weaknesses, and give them feedback. (2) Resume Building: Volunteers conduct workshops on resume writing, interviewing skills, and on-the-job skills building.  This opportunity is perfect for retirees, current professionals, and college students.

Dates: TBD
Time: Monday-Friday (9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.)
Place: BronxWorks Employment Center, 391 E. 149th St., Suite 520, Bronx, NY 10455

Commitment: We ask individuals to come in twice a month.

Senior Center Volunteer

Come help our dedicated staff create a warm, safe, and welcoming environment for the Bronx’s seniors.  Your job is to have fun and to celebrate everything!  We need volunteers to welcome seniors into the center, direct them to services, and assist with programs like bingo or arts and crafts.  Volunteers will have the opportunity to build relationships and get involved in the life of the center.  This promises to be a rewarding experience for a “people person” who enjoys working with seniors, and will be a valuable experience for those considering a job in social services. Students are welcome!

Dates: TBD
Time: M/T/W/Th/F (8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.)
Place: East Concourse Senior Center, 236 East Tremont Ave., Bronx, NY 10457

Commitment: We ask that individuals come in at least once a week for 3 hours.

Senior Community Outreach Volunteer

Come play a very special role in the Bronx community of seniors and help promote the services offered at our senior centers.  These volunteers will reach out to seniors by calling to inform or remind them about programs that are occurring at our centers.  Volunteers will also be able to sign seniors up for our Minor Repairs for Seniors program, which helps keep Bronx-area seniors safe by assisting them with minor household projects that would be difficult or dangerous for them to complete themselves (often as simple as fixing a lock or changing a hard-to-reach light bulb).  Depending on schedules and interest, these volunteers may also assist with planned activities, lead their own workshops, distribute monthly calendars throughout housing communities, or accompany seniors on shopping trips to places such as BJ’s or Wal-Mart.  Students are welcome!

Dates: TBD
Time: M/T/W/Th (Morning or afternoon)
Place: The Roberto Clemente Senior Services Office, 30 Richman Plaza, River Park Towers; Morris Senior Center, 80 E. 181st Street; Heights Senior Center, 200 W. Tremont Ave.; E. Roberts Moore Senior Center, 515 Jackson Ave.

Commitment: We ask that individuals come in at least once a week for 2 hours.

Positive Living HIV/AIDS Volunteer

Help those affected by HIV/AIDS access important health and wellness services.  If you’re warm and welcoming, there’s a volunteer opportunity for you at the BronxWorks Positive Living Department, which provides services for families and individuals living with HIV.  Volunteers will provide general assistance to the department by answering phones, directing clients to appropriate staff members, and creating a friendly and welcoming environment for all.  This opportunity can provide excellent experience for students pursuing careers in social services.  Those interested in volunteering should send a resume to Miriam Rabban at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
