On Wednesday, February 3, 2016, BronxWorks, together with Triborough Preservation, a partnership of L+M Development Partners, Preservation Development Partners, and NYCHA, announced the opening of BronxWorks at Bronxchester Houses. The new office offers comprehensive and holistic services to children, young adults, families and seniors with the goal of improving the socio-economic conditions of the Bronxchester community.

The BronxWorks Offices at Bronxchester programming features afterschool and summer camp programs for children aged 6 to 12, workforce development services for working-age adults and senior services. All services will be available to residents and other Bronxchester community members.

“We are happy to announce BronxWork’s new office at Bronxchester,” said BronxWorks Executive Director Eileen Torres. “Through our partnership with Triborough Preservation, we are offering the vital resources residents need to improve their economic and social well-being. From toddlers to seniors, we are providing the necessary tools and improving opportunities for success.”

“As partners in the revitalization of Bronxchester, we knew our work here would go beyond renovating units,” said Debbie Kenyon, Vice Chair and Senior Partner at L+M Development Partners. “We are proud to call ourselves partners of BronxWorks, whose comprehensive approach to programming reflects L+M’s mission to holistically build up communities. We look forward to seeing more and more residents get involved with the various BronxWorks programs and services.”

The team is working with BronxWorks to implement the overall programming following Triborough Preservation’s rehabilitation and preservation of affordable housing units at Bronxchester and other NYCHA properties. Workforce development services will include job readiness prep, resume writing and interview workshops, and job referrals. Senior services will include classes and workshops in arts and crafts, computer training, health and wellness programs, and informational sessions regarding city services.

The program’s afterschool and summer camp components are funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development. Afterschool services will include on homework help, academic enrichment and recreational activities.

Today’s event included a grand opening ceremony attended by local elected officials including Deputy Bronx Borough President Aurelia Greene. BronxWorks also held a sign-up session for Bronxchester residents to discuss the new community programming and to learn how they can access it.

“Partnerships such as this are vital as we continue to improve our borough,” said Deputy Bronx Borough President Aurelia Greene. “We have seen decreases in unemployment and improvements in education but we must continue to build on those successes. Community programming is crucial to providing Bronxchester with the tools they need to improve their education and careers. BronxWorks and the Triborough Preservation’s work to reinvigorate the Bronxchester Houses and the neighborhood are very much welcomed and appreciated by the community.”
