BronxWorks is now hosting no-charge tax preparation services, including free e-filing, at two locations.

Our Morris Innovative Senior Center (80 E. 181st St.) offers tax assistance from our partners at the Food Bank for New York City.  It is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 12pm to 7pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 4pm.  The phone number is (718) 933-5300.

Families with dependent children can come in anytime between now and April 18.  Single taxpayers may come beginning March 1.

BronxWorks’ Burnside Avenue Walk-in Office at 2070 Grand Concourse is also offering tax assistance from Community Tax Aid.  It is open every Saturday (except March 11) from 11am to 2pm.  Their phone number is (718) 731-3114.

You qualify for tax preparation by Community Tax Aid if:

  • Your income is up to $25,000 for an individual or
  • Your income is up to $55,000 for a family – a single parent with a child or children
  • And you have no more than $3,400 in interest, dividends and or/capital gains

Please bring with you:

  • Copy of last year’s tax return (or the last tax return you filed)
  • All W-2 and/or 1099 forms and any other income information including Social Security and SSI
  • If self-employed, income and expense information and records
  • Forms or notices received from the Internal Revenue Service or the New York State, New York City, or any other tax authority
  • Social Security cards (or ITIN letters) and State issued ID and/or drivers' licenses for yourself and all household members
  • Information about health insurance for you and your dependents: 1095-A, 1095-B, or 1095-C forms if you got them, insurance cards
  • STUDENTS: Form 1098-T as well as a bursar’s receipt showing tuition you paid from your personal funds and what was paid by loans.  Also bring receipts for books and a computer if you purchased one
  • Amount of Medical Expenses if significant, including cost of insurance,  Real Estate Taxes paid, Casualty Losses, Charitable Contributions, if any
  • Bank account number and routing number for direct deposit of any refund

Additionally, our four walk-in office locations offer assistance with the IT-214 and NYC-210 tax credit forms for people who don’t need to otherwise file tax returns.  This service is by appointment only.  Please call first to make an appointment.

If you are a client of one of our Workforce Development programs, you also qualify for free tax assistance at our Workforce Development office  (630 Jackson Avenue) until April 13.  Please call (718) 993-8880, ext. 221 to confirm your eligibility and make an appointment.

Typically, around 5,600 people get free income tax assistance at BronxWorks.  We help Bronx residents get around $10 million in refunds for the filers, including about $5 million in Earned Income Tax Credit payments.
