BronxWorks welcomed a delegation of more than 30 officials from Denmark’s National Labor Advisory Board on Wednesday, January 23rd.  They were referred to BronxWorks by the Robin Hood Foundation because they wanted to learn about how we engage unemployed adults and disconnected youth.

Jessica Nathan, our Director of Workforce Development, and Elisa Istueta, our Children & Youth Department Director, described the programs they run to assist Bronx residents with job readiness training, employment help, internships, and educational opportunities.  They explained to the Danish officials how the American nonprofit sector works, the challenges we face, and the lessons we’ve learned.

The Danish delegation was so impressed that they asked for a second visit from another group of Danish labor officials.  BronxWorks Executive Director Carolyn McLaughlin was glad to extend the invitation, which will take place in April.

“It is interesting that a nation so well known for its advanced social programs can still learn from the United States,” Ms. McLaughlin said.  “We look forward to the follow-up visit this spring.”
