Children from the BronxWorks summer camp and The Point were encouraged to dream big this summer when they participated in the Bronx Children’s Museum's “Dream Big Initiative.”  Over five weeks, the children took inspiration from the life of Supreme Court Justice and native Bronxite Sonia Sotomayor. The museum led them in artwork projects in assorted media such as painting, photography, printmaking, and puppetry.

On Saturday, August 14th, the youngsters had an amazing experience when they got to meet Justice Sotomayor at Lehman College.  They showed her their creative projects, and she read to the children and spoke about “dreaming big.”   She said, “Your library card is your passport to anywhere you want to go.  Tell your parents Justice Sotomayor told you to pester them to take you to the library.”  As a local hero, she speaks from experience as she grew up in a Soundview housing project right here in the Bronx.

The event was hosted by Sonia Monzano (Sesame Street’s Maria) and included special guests Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Congressman José E. Serrano, and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.
