As part of a nationwide drive sponsored by the National Basketball Association to promote health and fitness among schoolchildren, Chicago Bulls power forward Nicola Mirotic visited P.S. 42, the Claremont Community School,  to conduct a health and fitness clinic in February.  The children loved it and the 6-foot, 10-inch player had a good time, a towering but amiable presence who chatted with the kids and demonstrated some exercises.  Each child was given a T-shirt with the NBA FIT logo, referring to the campaign launched during the NBA All-Star break.

P.S. 42 was one of 100 schools in the city selected by the NBA for the health and fitness clinic, said Stephanie Rodriguez, coordinator of BronxWorks’ community school initiative.  This is quite an honor because New York City has more than 1,100 public schools.
BronxWorks’ relationship with P.S. 42 is new, coinciding with the school’s designation this year as a community school.  As part of this relationship, BronxWorks will oversee a program there to improve school attendance and prevent dropouts.
